Sonic Goodies: Africa Undone

In celebration of their 2 year anniversary party tomorrow, the Lunchboxtheory crew have released a new mix called, Africa Undone, and did a revamp of their site.  I have to say it is definitely my favorite mix thus far. I couldn’t help but dance in my chair as I sat listening late into the night. Take a listen for yourself here:

So make sure you listen to the mix and prep real good for the party tomorrow night at Bossa Lounge in Adams Morgan. Also, be prepared to listen to the delicatable sounds of Heturu and the hypnotizing mixes of Dj Underdog and Dj Camjus. Also word is, there will be delicious homemade treats for everyone!

See you there!

About Slimkat78:

Slimkat78 has been blessing hip hop heads with material for years. The DMV based producer has most recently been noted for his work on the Diamond District Album “In the Ruff” and on Yu’s latest Album “Before Taxes”

About The Cornel West Theory:

The Cornel West theory is a Washington, D.C. based hip-hop band. With the blessing of Dr. Cornel West, the Princeton University professor and renowned author, the band takes its name from his prolific writings and philosophies that have shaped contemporary thought throughout the world.

Inspired by the rich musical history of the nation’s capital and the struggles of poor people worldwide, the band was created in 2004 as a response to social oppression everywhere. They are here to deliver music that holds a mirror up to the world, with a core focus on political, cultural and spiritual commentary.

The band’s purpose is to speak the truth to the masses, while communicating to young and old alike. They create soulful music that entertains, informs, educates and provokes awareness and activism. Their sound, filled with drums, bass, piano, and electronic sounds, contains elements of all great music – from home grown Go-Go to jazz to rock to hip-hop.

Their music is rooted in hip-hop, but that single genre does not define the range and variety of the musicians in the group.

Check out the printed story on the Lunchbox Theory Productions team here and also make sure you go visit their site for posts on global culture and music here.

I’ll be there on Thursday, will you?

The Lunchbox theory girls are changing few things up this year. Not only have they revamped their site but they have revamped their signature Afrobeat parties. NEW NIGHT and NEW LOCATION!! They have taken over Bossa Lounge in heart of Adams Morgan, both floors! Live band playing on the first floor, this time with legendary Cheick Hamala, and DJ Underdog spinning nothing but records upstairs. You definitely don’t want to miss out. If you remember my previous post on these parties, they definitely are a nice escape from the stress and pretentiousness that comes with attending these other parties in the DMV, PLUS, you get free face paint and pretty cheap drinks and without fail sweated out from dancing to some great music! You really can’t beat that especially with such a low, low cover of $5.

So don’t miss out and make sure you come this THURSDAY, JAN 28th.

Starts @ 9PM|$5 cover

2463 18th Street NW
Washington, DC 20009-2003

**Portion of door will be going to Yele Haiti Foundation

Hope to see you there!
